Ein weithin sichtbarer neuer Baustein am Campus

Der neue Baustein am Campus des INNOVATIONS-Zentrums W.E.I.Z. bildet den Abschluss der Forschungsgebäude entlang der Franz-Pichler-Straße. Begrünte Dächer und reduzierte Versiegelung verbessern das Mikroklima. Ein einladender Vorplatz, gut sichtbar über die Franz-Pichler-Straße erreichbar, bildet den neuen Treffpunkt am Campus. Räumlich aufgespannt zwischen W.E.I.Z. 4 und dem Holztechnikum wird er ganzjährig zum belebten Freiraum mit hoher Aufenthaltsqualität- frei von Stellplätzen und Verkehrswegen.

Das Holztechnikum und der zweigeschoßige Laborbereich bilden einen kompakten Sockel, auf dem der Bürobauteil des Akzelerators ruht. Im Foyer werden die Innovationen und Visionen des neuen Zentrums greifbar, inspirierende Einblicke in das Technikum und das Labor sind möglich. Über den zentralen und natürlich belichteten Erschließungsbereich werden alle Ebenen kompakt erschlossen. Galerien und Lufträume verbinden alle Bereiche miteinander und bilden in Kombination mit Besprechungs- und Meetingzonen das kommunikative Herz des Akzelerators.

 Die begrünte Dachlandschaft dient als Erholungsraum mit Blick auf den Campus und die Weizer Altstadt.

Der innovative Holzbau ermöglicht durch die Leichtbaukonstruktion und den modularen Aufbau eine einfache und schnelle Erweiterung durch Aufstockung von bis zu drei Geschossen- ohne dabei den laufenden Betrieb zu stören!

Das Konzept verspricht daher eine hohe Robustheit gegenüber Veränderungen, was die Lebensdauer des Gebäudes verlängert und damit entscheidend zur Nachhaltigkeit beiträgt.

Alle Bauelemente, mit Ausnahme der erdberührten Bauteile, werden aus Holz errichtet.  Holz bietet den Vorteil eines hoher Vorfertigungsgrades, die Holzbauteile werden präzise und regional vorproduziert. Die Kombination von integralem BIM-Modell und Monitoring-Technologie garantiert eine kurze Bauzeit und einen reibungslosen Ablauf auf der Baustelle. Jedes einzelne Holzbauelement wird getrackt, exakt zum richtigen Zeitpunkt angeliefert und kann bei der Montage punktgenau verortet werden.

Freianlagengestaltung und Verkehrserschließung

Die Außenflächen werden großflächig entsiegelt und intensiv bepflanzt. Für die Verkehrsflächen und Erschließungswege werden, wo technisch möglich, wasserdurchlässige Beläge verwendet. Zum südlich gelegenen Wohnbau hin wird ein Grüngürtel errichtet und am neuen Campus- Platz spenden Bäume natürlichen Schatten und verbessern das Klima.

Für zukunftsweisende Gebäude steht die Optimierung des Energiemanagements und die Erfüllung des Umweltstandards im Vordergrund. 

Das Energiekonzept nutzt Geothermie, Photovoltaik und intelligente Steuerungssysteme für nachhaltige Energieversorgung.

A new, highly visible landmark on the campus of the INNOVATION Center W.E.I.Z

The new building block on the campus of the INNOVATION Center W.E.I.Z. forms the concluding element of the research buildings along Franz-Pichler-Street. Green roofs and reduced hard surfaces improve the microclimate. A welcoming forecourt, clearly visible and directly accessible from Franz-Pichler-Street, becomes the new meeting point of the campus. Spatially stretched between W.E.I.Z. 4 and the timber technology institute, it becomes a lively year-round open space with a high quality of stay – free of car parking and traffic routes.

The timber technology institute and the two-storey laboratory zone form a compact plinth, on which the office volume of the accelerator rests. In the foyer, the innovations and visions of the new center become tangible, with inspiring visual connections to the technology institute and the laboratory. All levels are compactly accessed via a central circulation zone with natural daylight. Galleries and double-height voids interconnect all areas and, together with meeting and collaboration zones, form the communicative heart of the accelerator.

The green roof landscape serves as a recreational area with views across the campus and the historic centre of Weiz.

The innovative timber construction enables easy and rapid extension by adding up to three additional storeys – without disrupting ongoing operations – thanks to the lightweight construction and modular system.

The concept therefore promises a high degree of robustness to future change, extending the building’s life cycle and significantly contributing to sustainability.

All components – with the exception of elements in contact with the ground – are built from timber. Timber allows a high degree of prefabrication; the components are precisely produced regionally. The combination of an integral BIM model and monitoring technology ensures short construction times and smooth site logistics. Every individual timber element is tracked, delivered exactly at the right moment and positioned with pinpoint accuracy during assembly.

The outdoor areas are extensively unsealed and densely planted. For circulation and access routes, permeable surfaces are used wherever technically possible. Towards the residential buildings to the south, a green buffer is created, while trees on the new campus square provide natural shade and improve the microclimate.

For future-oriented buildings, the optimization of energy management and the fulfilment of environmental standards is paramount. The energy concept uses geothermal energy, photovoltaics and intelligent control systems for sustainable energy supply.
